Katy Perry’s Tattoos
Mar 12th

If there is anything about Katy Perry that is even more eccentric than her ever-changing hair colour, it’s her assortment of colourful tattoos. News has been circling widely about her divorce from Russell Brand and the possibility of regret over their matching tattoos or even the tattoos that they had done together. Since she’s currently waltzing around with blue hair, it seems to us that Perry probably doesn’t really do regret, but that’s not to say she’s not at least a little irritated about the fact that much of her ink carries with it reminders of a failed marriage. In the Beginning Katy Perry celebrated being 18 by getting her very first tattoo. Those who follow her closely are probably somewhat shocked to find out that the script tattoo on her left wrist says, “Jesus.” The tattoo is intricately detailed and for Perry it serves as a constant reminder of where she came from. In interviews, Katy has talked about her tattoo, why she got it, and why it’s still important to her. “It stares right back at me,” Katy stated in an interview with Katie Couric “…It’s like, ‘remember you came from this, and you can always go back to it.’” While Katy does state that the tattoo is not who she still is, it is what she came from and she has respect for it and often derives strength from it. This is likely a good thing, since the rest of her ink collection has little or no meaning at all. Cartoons In July of 2009, Katy Perry’s Twitter followers were graced with this tweet, “Thinking about getting my second tattoo tonight! I wanna get a cartoon-ish strawberry to celebrate this amazeballs past 15 months.” In typical Katy style, she did just that and promptly posted a picture of the smiling strawberry right inside her left ankle. The photo included the tweet, “My new little friend…What shall be her name?” Oh, Katy. Of course, this tattoo was commemorative of the inflatable strawberries that adorned the stage during her “Hello Katy” world concert tour. She also had several outfits during that tour that were embellished with strawberries and other fruit accents. Kay’s cartoon peppermint wheel tattoo was definitely no secret. This was one that she got along with Russell Brand over the Thanksgiving holidays last year. Brand appeared on Jimmy Kimmel live stating that Katy was always, “…scribbling permanent things on me; for a laugh.” But that her “peppermint thing,” had nothing to do with him. Her blue-eyed smiling peppermint is on the inside of her right ankle, in the exact same spot that the strawberry appears on her left. Going with the Flow Perhaps Katy’s most popular tattoo is the Sanskrit saying on the upper inside of her right arm. While happily engaged, Perry and Russell Brand announced their undying love (and we can now all see just how undying it was) by getting matching tattoos that they each showed off shortly thereafter. The saying reads, “Anuugacchati Pravaha” which translates to, “Go with the Flow.” You can’t help but wonder what she thinks about that tattoo now; or where she’d now like to tell Russell Brand to go.
